Fancy Dancer

Fancy Dancer – 5:28 – It so happens that Jerry and Liz Levine, who play fiddle and percussion in our band “The Purveyors”, got married on exactly the same day in 1981 and my wife Robin and I. We didn’t know each other then – too bad! But we both had our 25th Wedding Anniversaries in 2006 – and I thought I’d better write a song.

The lovely, subtle harmonies were added by Kylie Martin, who happens to be married to my cousin.

I look forward, to your face in the morning,
I look forward, to your touch in the night.
I look forward, to when we are dancing,
When we’re moving together, and I am holding you tight.

And though I am not a… fancy dancer,
And I’ll step onto your toes.
We are partners, that’s the way this story goes.
We are partners, that’s the way this story goes.

I don’t know who leads, [bridge]
Which probably means it isn’t me.
And when the rhythms change,
Although I try there can be, no guarantee

Long ago now, we used to dance in the gymnasium,
Moving close together… any chance we could.
And though the years have made me quite aware of how we fit together
I don’t think the two of us dance, as often as we should.

There are times when we waltz in perfect rhythm.
There are times the mileage shows.
But we are partners, that’s the way this story goes
We are partners, that’s the way this story goes.

And though I am not a… fancy dancer,
And I’ll step onto your toes.
We are partners, that’s the way this story goes.
We are partners, that’s the way this story goes.
